Chapter 14: The Final Notice

The ballroom exploded with deafening applause.

Aggressive investors immediately began whispering into their phones. Magazine editors rushed toward Maya, completely abandoning Regina. Several luxury brand representatives immediately pulled out their business cards, pushing to get to the young woman in the grey uniform.

Regina stood alone on the red carpet, watching helplessly as her years of carefully built authority, built on terror and cruelty, disappeared in a matter of minutes.

The company's Chairman approached Regina quietly from the shadows.

"Regina."

She turned hopefully, expecting him to fix this. To protect her.

Instead, he held out a crisp white envelope.

"I've accepted your resignation, effective immediately."

Regina's face drained of color. "You can't be serious. I built this gala!"

"I am very serious," the Chairman replied coldly. "You destroyed the reputation of this company with your cruelty before the cameras ever had a chance to."

Regina looked around the ballroom. No one came to defend her. No one even looked at her.
