Chapter 7 - Lucian Speaks

|

Marcus connected the projector cables without a single trace of hurry.

Celine was still standing near the coffin, tightly clutching my stolen diamond ring. I stood bleeding beside the mahogany box, keeping one hand protectively over my unborn son, my chest heaving as I struggled to draw breath.

The giant screen flickered. A soft static hum filled the church.

Then, Lucian appeared.

A collective, visceral sound went through the cathedral—a mixture of shock, genuine grief, and longing. My knees nearly buckled, and I had to lean against the coffin to stay upright. He was sitting in his private office at our home, the familiar brass lamp behind him throwing a warm, golden light over his extensive bookshelves. He wore a simple black sweater, not his usual tailored suit, and he looked incredibly exhausted. The dark circles beneath his beautiful eyes were deep and bruised, but his gaze was steady, focused, and almost terrifyingly calm.

This was not the smiling, charming founder that shareholders and magazine editors adored. This was the ruthless, brilliant man who had once systematically dismantled a hostile corporate acquisition in three hours simply because the opposing buyer made the fatal mistake of threatening his employees.

He looked directly into the camera lens.

“To my beautiful wife, Isabel,” he said.

The sound of his voice broke something heavy and tight wide open inside my chest. Tears finally spilled over my cheeks.

“If you are seeing this, it means I am gone. I am so sorry I could not tell you everything sooner. I was trying to protect you and our son without frightening you before I had gathered all the undeniable proof.”

Victoria’s lips parted in sheer horror.

Lucian continued, his tone shifting into formal, legal clarity.

“To my unborn child, Leo Ashcroft, I leave the absolute controlling interest of Helixion Systems, the entirety of the Ashcroft family trust, all personal real estate holdings, patents, voting shares, and protective offshore assets, with Isabel Rowan Ashcroft as sole guardian, trustee, and ultimate voting authority until he reaches twenty-one years of legal age.”

The cathedral erupted in shocked whispers.

Celine’s hand began to tremble violently around my ring.

Victoria’s face hardened into a mask of pure rage.

“This is absurd,” Victoria hissed. “Turn it off!”
