Chapter 17 - The Wrath of Malenkov

|

The warehouse erupted into a chaotic symphony of gunfire and screams.

Victor did not flinch as bullets sparked against the concrete around him. He moved like a terminator, armed with a heavy tactical shotgun, his face an emotionless mask of absolute, terrifying slaughter.

He didn't bring his army. He had brought only Silas and Mikhail—who had fully recovered and was eager to repay his blood debt to Aliyah. The three men moved with devastating precision, cutting down Romanov’s mercenaries before they could even reload.

"Hold them off!" Romanov shrieked, panic finally setting in as his men dropped one by one.

Romanov grabbed Aliyah by the hair, hauling her up from the chair despite her bound hands. He dragged her backward toward the rear offices, seeking cover.

Through the smoke, Victor’s pale gray eyes locked onto Aliyah.

When he saw the blood on her lip where Romanov had struck her, a guttural, animalistic roar tore from Victor’s throat. It was the sound of a man watching his world burn for the second time, refusing to let the fire win.

Victor threw his shotgun aside, drawing a heavy handgun. He broke into a sprint, entirely ignoring the crossfire.

"Stop right there, Victor!" Romanov screamed, pressing the blade of his combat knife against Aliyah’s throat. "Drop the gun or I slit her throat!"

Victor didn't slow down. He didn't stop.

"I told you twelve years ago, Igor," Victor yelled, his voice echoing over the gunfire. "I don't negotiate with dead men."

Victor raised his weapon without breaking stride and fired a single, impossible shot.

The bullet struck Romanov squarely in the right shoulder, shattering the joint. The knife fell from his hand as he screamed in agony, his grip on Aliyah releasing.

Aliyah dropped to the floor, rolling away from the Russian boss.

Victor closed the remaining distance like a freight train. He didn't use his gun. He grabbed Romanov by the throat, hoisting the dying boss off his feet, and drove his fist violently into Romanov’s face. Once. Twice. Three times, until the man was unconscious and utterly broken.

Victor dropped him, turning instantly to Aliyah.
