Chapter 8: The New Blueprint

Chapter 8: The New Blueprint

The next morning.

Maya sat at her desk.

Not in a corner office of a massive corporation, but in a small, sunlit room downtown.

The polished brass sign on her door read: The Lantern Foundation.

She had named it after the restaurant.

Because that was the exact place where the lights finally came on.

A young woman sat across from her, her hands trembling in her lap.

She looked exactly like Maya did five years ago.

Afraid to speak.

Afraid to take up space.

Waiting for an invisible blow.

"He says it's my fault," the woman whispered, staring at the floor. "He says I make him angry."

Maya leaned forward.

She didn't offer empty pity. She offered a lifeline.

"That is the oldest lie in the world."

Maya handed her a warm cup of tea, ensuring her voice was steady and absolute.

"Control dresses up as love to confuse you. It makes you believe that shrinking yourself will keep the peace. But love doesn't make you feel small. And his anger is his choice, not your responsibility."

The woman finally looked up.

Through the exhaustion and the tears, a tiny glimmer of hope broke through.

Maya knew the road ahead of this woman was terrifying.

She knew the legal battles, the self-doubt, and the sleepless nights that were coming.

But she also knew the destination.

Freedom.

And it was worth every single step.
