Chapter 6: The Price of Betrayal

Chapter 6: The Price of Betrayal
Daniel finally forced himself to look up.
"Elena, please," he said, his voice cracking with a pathetic, raw desperation. "I just needed a job. The industry blacklisted me. I didn't have a choice."
The desperation in his voice was palpable, a heavy, suffocating weight in the room. But it wasn't her burden to carry anymore. She felt no pity, only a cold, clinical observation of a man facing his own consequences.
"You had a job, Daniel," Elena replied smoothly. "You had a partnership. You had a life. You threw all of it away for an illusion of grandeur that you were never strong enough to hold."
Marcus scoffed loudly, desperately trying to regain control of the cinematic tension in the room.
"We are taking over the southside development project, Elena," Marcus barked, pointing a thick finger at her. "With or without your board's approval. I have the votes. You are finished in that district."
Elena stood up slowly, her movements fluid and utterly controlled. The perspective shifted to a perfect cinematic wide shot of a woman who completely commanded the massive room simply by existing in it.
"Check your phone, Marcus," she whispered.
Marcus frowned deeply. He reached into his tailored jacket and pulled out his device.
The blood instantly drained from his face, leaving him looking sickly and pale.
"The southside development board just voted ten minutes ago," Elena informed him, buttoning her suit jacket. "They chose Ward Global. Unanimously."

She turned her back on both of them, walking toward the heavy oak doors.
"Enjoy the lounge," she called out over her shoulder, not bothering to look back. "The bill is already paid."
