Chapter 21

The next morning, I woke up on the small sofa in the safe house, my muscles aching from the tension of the previous day. Liam was already awake, brewing strong black coffee and speaking quietly on a secure satellite phone.
"Understood. Have the extraction team ready at the airfield," Liam said before hanging up.
"An airfield?" I asked, sitting up and wrapping a blanket around my shoulders.
"Julian Cross isn't just going to sit in his office waiting to be arrested," Liam explained, handing me a mug of coffee. "The men in the woods will have reported back to him. He knows we have the drive. He is currently moving millions of dollars into offshore accounts and fueling up his private jet. He is going to run, Claire."
"We can't let him leave the country," I said, panic rising. "If he gets to a non-extradition country, he’ll get away with it."
"He isn't going anywhere," Liam promised, his eyes hard. "I just forwarded the encrypted files to my contacts at the FBI’s corporate corruption division, and I sent a copy to the federal transportation safety board. Federal agents are mobilizing as we speak to shut down the bridge construction."
"But what about Julian?"
"The FBI will take hours to secure an arrest warrant. Julian will be in the air by then," Liam said, checking the magazine of his handgun. "So, we are going to perform a citizen's arrest. We are going to the private airstrip."
I stood up, discarding the blanket. "I'm coming with you."
"Claire, it's going to be dangerous. He will have his personal security detail with him."
"He killed my husband, Liam," I said, my voice leaving no room for argument. "I am going to look him in the eye when he falls."

Liam studied my face for a moment, recognizing the unyielding determination there. He nodded once.
"Let's go catch a killer."
