Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Fiancée

Chloe physically staggered backward as if I had struck her. Her jaw dropped open, but no words came out. The beautiful, elegant facade she had maintained for the past year shattered into a million irreparable pieces right before my eyes.
"You... you spied on me?" she finally gasped, trying to summon a tone of righteous indignation.
"I protected my family," I corrected her, my voice turning into a lethal whisper. "I listened as you called my children brats. I watched you snatch my late wife's toy from my six-year-old daughter. And I saw you aggressively grab Sofia's wrist before Marisol intervened to protect her."
"Alexander, you don't understand!" Chloe pleaded, tears of genuine panic finally streaming down her face. "I was just trying to establish discipline! They walk all over you! I was trying to be a mother to them!"
"You will never be their mother," I said, entirely devoid of mercy. "And you will never be my wife."
Chloe let out a sharp, hysterical sob. She lunged forward, trying to grab my hand, but I stepped back in disgust.
"Please! We're getting married in three months! We sent out the invitations! You can't do this to me!"
"The wedding is canceled," I said. "Hector!"
The heavy footsteps of my head of security echoed from the hallway. Hector stepped into the living room, his imposing frame filling the doorway.
"Yes, Mr. Vance?" Hector asked politely.
"Miss Chloe is leaving the property immediately," I ordered without breaking eye contact with the weeping woman in front of me. "Escort her out. Do not let her take anything other than the clothes on her back and her purse. Her remaining belongings will be boxed up and shipped to her parents' house tomorrow."

"You can't kick me out into the street!" Chloe shrieked, her true colors flying wildly as Hector stepped forward and grabbed her by the elbow. "I gave you a year of my life! I deserve half of everything!"
"You deserve a prison cell for attempting to file a false police report," I told her coldly. "If you ever contact me or come near my daughters again, I will release the security footage to every news outlet in California. Get out of my house."
