Chapter 10 - The Phoenix Rising

The office was located in a sleek, modern building in the heart of the business district.
I had been working for six months, and the foundation was already making waves. We didn't just help women. We investigated, we exposed, and we dismantled.
One Monday morning, a woman named Clara sat in my office. She had dark circles under her eyes and a shaking hand.
"He told me I was crazy," she whispered.
I pushed a folder toward her.
Inside were the documents showing her husband’s secret gambling accounts.
"You aren't crazy," I said. "You’re an auditor. You’re just looking at the wrong ledger."
She looked at the numbers, her eyes widening.
"How did you get this?"
"I know the language of secrets," I said.
She stood up, looking at me with awe.
"What do I do?"
"You take back your power."
As she walked out of my office, I felt a familiar ache, but it was fading.
I opened my laptop to check the stock status of Ethan’s old hotel conglomerate. It had been sold to a group that was actually managed by my father’s firm.
My father had turned it into a shelter for displaced families.
The hotel that had been used for fraud was now providing housing for the vulnerable.
I smiled.
It was a beautiful ending for a terrible story.
I heard a knock.
"Come in."
My father entered. He looked at the paperwork on my desk and smiled.
"You’re doing a good job."
"I learned from the best."
He nodded, looking at the window.
"They’re finally gone, Emma."
"I know."
"No more secrets?"
May you like
I looked at the phoenix logo on the wall.
"Only the ones I choose to keep."
