Chapter 18 - The Crown Returned

One year later.
The grand opening of the Rose Sterling Memorial Foundation—named in honor of our late mother—took place on a stunning, sun-drenched afternoon overlooking Lake Washington.
Where the grand Vance mansion once stood now rose a state-of-the-art, breathtaking glass-and-timber sanctuary for women and children seeking refuge from domestic abuse.
Hundreds of community leaders, medical professionals, and supporters filled the pristine courtyard.
I stood at the podium wearing a radiant dark blue dress, a microphone before me, looking out at the crowd. My five brothers sat proudly in the front row, their faces beaming with unadulterated joy.
“True power,” I announced to the cheering crowd, “is not measured by how many people you can bend to your will. True power is measured by how many people you can lift up when they have been broken.”
The applause echoed across the water as I cut the gold ribbon, officially opening the sanctuary doors.
Later that evening, a private family celebration was held at the Sterling Manor.
A massive banquet table was laden with delicious food, expensive wine, and vibrant flowers. We drank champagne, told stories from our childhood, and laughed until our cheeks burned.
For the first time in my thirty-five years, I felt completely whole, completely safe, and infinitely loved.
As midnight approached, Noah lifted his glass toward me.
“To Flora,” Noah declared, his voice rich with emotion. “The strongest Sterling of us all.”

“To Flora!” Leo, Julian, Marcus, and Caleb echoed in unison, raising their glasses high into the air.
I smiled, clinking my glass against theirs. “To family.”
