Chapter 2: The Ambush in White

The contractions began on a Tuesday afternoon. By the time Valeria was settled into her private hospital suite in San Pedro Garza García, the pain was intense, but her mind remained razor-sharp.

Sebastián sat by the window, nervously scrolling through his phone. Suddenly, his device rang. He looked at the screen, frowning. "It's an emergency at the firm," he muttered, standing up. "I'll just be right outside in the hall. Five minutes, Val. I promise."

As the heavy wooden door clicked shut behind him, the atmosphere in the room instantly plummeted. Less than a minute later, the door opened again.

Rebeca stepped inside, impeccably dressed in an ivory business suit, her signature pearl earrings gleaming under the harsh fluorescent lights. A serene, chilling smile rested on her face. Her expensive, suffocating perfume instantly filled the sterile room.

Behind her followed Octavio—Sebastián’s cousin and the family’s ruthless, trusted lawyer—holding a thick, leather-bound folder. Trailing them were Dr. Salgado, a private obstetrician on the Alcázar payroll, and two expressionless nurses.

Rebeca locked the door. She leaned over Valeria’s bed, her voice a terrifyingly calm whisper.

"After the birth, the child leaves with me," Rebeca stated, her eyes devoid of any human warmth. "And you, my dear, will be taking a long, necessary rest at a facility where you can no longer harm anyone. Including yourself."

Octavio stepped forward, placing a stack of documents on the rolling tray table. "Sign these, and everything will be handled discreetly. If you refuse, we will immediately request an emergency injunction declaring you mentally incompetent."

Valeria glanced at the papers: a temporary power of attorney for childcare, a consent form for psychiatric medical treatment, and an authorization for immediate transfer to a private clinic in Saltillo. All dated, signed by witnesses, and prepared long before her water had even broken.
