Chapter 11 - The VIP Confrontation

The collective gasp from the surrounding billionaires could have sucked the oxygen out of the room.
Cordelia’s jaw trembled with pure, unadulterated rage. She stepped forward, her voice dropping into a dangerous, venomous whisper.
“You ungrateful little street rat,” she hissed, her manicured nails digging into her leather clutch. “How dare you show your face here with this disgraced prosecutor? Security!”
Two heavy-set security guards in blazers stepped forward, but Ethan instantly produced a sleek white folder from his suit jacket and held it up.
“I wouldn't touch her if I were you,” Ethan said, his voice carrying the calm authority of a man backed by the federal government. “I am Ethan Vance, special counsel representing Sarah Vance. We have just filed a formal injunction in the District Court freezing all assets associated with Montgomery Enterprises.”
Lachlan staggered back, clutching the edge of the banquet table. “Freezing... freezing our assets?”
“Wire fraud, embezzlement, and systematic theft of pre-marital trust funds,” I said, looking Lachlan dead in the eyes. “It turns out, Lachlan, your mother’s orders weren't just abusive—they were evidence.”
A prominent city councilman standing beside Cordelia slowly stepped back, putting distance between himself and the Montgomery family. Other investors began muttering anxiously, pulling out their phones to check the financial terminals.
“This is absurd!” Cordelia shrieked, her regal composure completely collapsing into screaming paranoia. “She’s lying! She’s mentally unstable! She stole from our safe before she ran away!”
“The federal grand jury didn't think she was lying when they reviewed the digitized ledgers Bernardet provided,” Ethan countered smoothly.
At the mention of Bernardet’s name, Cordelia’s eyes bulged with catastrophic terror.
She realized, in front of the entire elite establishment of Manhattan, that the quiet housekeeper she had thrown out onto the street forty-eight hours ago had held the key to her execution all along.

“You... you corrupt little bitch,” Cordelia whispered, trembling violently.
“I told you two days ago, Cordelia,” I said, stepping closer until I was inches from her face. “I did not apply for the servant position. But I am more than happy to act as your liquidator.”
