TUCSON, Ariz. — An Arizona man detained during a dramatic SWAT raid in connection with the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie is speaking publicly for the first time, firmly denying any involvement in what authorities believe was her abduction.

Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of Today, was taken from her Tucson home in the early morning hours of February 1, according to police. Investigators have said they believe she was taken against her will.

The case has drawn national attention as law enforcement continues to search for answers.

SWAT Raid Two Miles From Victim’s Home

On February 13, members of a SWAT team armed with a search warrant descended on the Tucson home of 37-year-old Luke Daley and his 77-year-old mother. The residence is located roughly two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home.

Daley and his mother were detained for several hours while officers executed two search warrants at the property. After questioning, both were released without being charged.

Daley’s attorney, Chris Scileppi, confirmed that his client was the subject of the search warrants served on February 13, 2026.

“Daley and his mother were both detained by law enforcement while the search warrants were being executed,” Scileppi said in a statement. “Neither Daley nor his mother were arrested in connection to this case or any other. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping.”

The attorney added that both Daley and his mother hope Nancy will be returned safely.

Surveillance Footage Sparks Online Speculation

On February 10, authorities released images and video captured by a Nest doorbell camera. The footage showed a masked individual carrying a firearm on Nancy Guthrie’s front porch during the early morning hours of February 1 — the same morning she vanished.

Police have not publicly identified the individual in the footage.

However, according to Daley, online speculation played a role in law enforcement’s focus on him. In an interview with journalist Briana Whitney on the program True Crime Arizona, Daley said he believes social media users began circulating claims that he resembled the masked figure.

When told that some people believed he was the man seen in the video, Daley responded:

“It’s not me. I don’t see the resemblance of it looking like me. Absolutely not. I have nothing to do with this case.”

He added that rumors spread quickly without verification.

“Someone says something and then they just go off of it based on no evidence, no truth,” Daley said.

Timeline of the Disappearance

According to police, Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home during the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1.

Her family contacted 911 at approximately 12:03 p.m. that day after she failed to join friends for a scheduled virtual church service — something relatives say was highly unusual for her.

Authorities quickly launched what they described as a massive investigation, involving local law enforcement and federal agencies. Officers canvassed the neighborhood, collected forensic evidence, and reviewed hours of surveillance footage from nearby homes.

Police have stated publicly that they believe Nancy was abducted.
