CHAPTER 6 – “THE NAME SHE NEVER KNEW”

CHAPTER 6 – “THE NAME SHE NEVER KNEW”

Marco investigated first.

Lily’s past had always been… empty.

Too empty.

No family records.

No hospital birth trail that matched her age.

No school history before she entered the Moretti estate under a temporary cleaning contract.

“It’s like she appeared,” Marco said quietly.

Vincent didn’t answer.

He was staring at the file.

At the absence inside it.

That was worse than evidence.

Absence meant design.

That night, Vincent confronted Lily.

Not aggressively.

But carefully.

“What do you remember before this house?” he asked.

Lily hesitated.

“I told you… I worked small jobs. I moved a lot.”

“Before that,” he pressed.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the table.

“I… don’t know.”

A pause.

Then softer:

“I think something was taken from me. But I don’t know what.”

That answer hit Vincent harder than anything else.

Because in their world—

People only forgot when someone needed them to.
