Chapter 13 - THE FALL OF MORETTI|

Through the bunker's audio feed, I heard every word spoken in the carriage house.
"Who paid you, Santino?" Adrian’s voice growled through the speaker.
Santino spat blood onto the stone floor, laughing darkly. "You think this was just Moretti, Vale? The entire North End Syndicate wants you dead! You brought a civilian woman into your life—you made yourself soft!"
Adrian leaned down, pressing the barrel of his gun directly against Santino's forehead.
"My woman walked back into a war zone today just to stand beside me," Adrian whispered coldly. "She has more spine than your entire syndicate combined."
BANG.
The feed went quiet.
Ten minutes later, the bunker door unlocked with a heavy pneumatic hiss.
Adrian stepped inside. His suit jacket was gone, his white shirt stained with soot and blood, but his posture was that of a king who had just reclaimed his throne.
He looked at me, extending his hand. "The house is secure."
I walked out of the bunker, stepping into the ruined courtyard. The east wing was damaged, but the main structure of Vale House stood tall and unshakeable against the sky.
Marcus walked up to us, wiping sweat from his forehead. "Moretti’s main office downtown was raided by federal agents ten minutes ago, boss. The shipping ledgers we pulled from Vanessa's phone gave the FBI everything they needed. Moretti will spend the rest of his life in a federal pen."

"And Vanessa?" I asked quietly.
"She’s on a private cargo plane to a secure facility in South America," Adrian said, looking at me. "She will never set foot in North America again."
