CHAPTER 33: THE GRADUATION CHRONICLE

Sophie was eighteen now.

The high school graduation auditorium was packed with thousands of parents, the scent of fresh flowers and polished wood filling the massive space. The stage was draped in blue and gold banners, the classical graduation march playing softly from the brass section near the front.

When the principal called her name—**Sophie Mitchell**—the entire front row stood up.

Our father, his hair completely silver, leaning on a beautifully carved wooden cane.

Hannah, her face radiant with a proud, unshakeable joy.

And myself, holding a camera with hands that no longer trembled.

Sophie walked across the stage to accept her diploma. She didn't look back to see if someone was going to shout at her.

She looked straight at us, a bright, fearless smile breaking across her face as she lifted her diploma into the air.

From the very back of the auditorium, near the exit doors, a man in a plain grey jacket offered a quiet, respectful nod before turning to leave.

Preston.

He had stayed just long enough to see the child he had once hurt claim the horizon that belonged to her.
