Chapter 15 - The Final Dose

The house grew eerily quiet as evening descended, the heavy rain lashing against the massive windows of the estate. Victor sat in his dark study on the ground floor, pouring himself a bourbon he had no intention of drinking.
Upstairs, the tension was reaching a breaking point.
Audrey had realized her slow, methodical approach was failing. Sylvia was still alive, Victor was home, and her father had subtly pressured her to finish the job before the Macau syndicate broke her legs. She couldn't afford to wait another week.
At 8:45 PM, Victor’s burner phone vibrated on his desk. It was a text message from a prepaid number he had given Marta earlier that afternoon.
“She is in the kitchen. She took four capsules from her purse. She is crushing them into water.”
Victor stood up. The waiting game was officially over.
He didn't rush. He walked out of his study, his footsteps silent on the expensive rugs, and moved toward the security room in the basement. He needed to make sure every camera was recording. If the Judge tried to use the FBI to destroy him, Victor was going to hand the federal government a 4K video of the Judge’s daughter committing premeditated murder.
He checked the monitors. Audrey was walking up the grand staircase. She was carrying a silver tray, but this time, there was only a small glass of cloudy, white liquid. A massive, lethal overdose.
Victor tapped his earpiece, connecting directly to Carlo and the security team stationed at the perimeter of the estate.
“Carlo. Lock the front gates. Cut the landlines. Block cell service in the main house using the scrambler,” Victor ordered, his voice cold and detached.
“Done, Boss,” Carlo replied instantly.
Victor left the basement and walked slowly up the stairs. He didn't want to intercept her in the hallway. He wanted her in the room. He wanted her holding the glass.

On the security feed, Marta had hidden herself inside the massive walk-in closet in Sylvia’s bedroom, watching through the slatted doors.
Victor reached the second-floor landing just as Audrey pushed the heavy oak door of Sylvia’s bedroom open. The storm outside raged, a flash of lightning illuminating the dark hallway as Victor stepped into the shadows, waiting for his moment to strike.
