He Faked His Coma to See Who Would Cry, but the Maid Heard His Fiancée Beg Him to Die — Then Whispered a Secret That Changed Everything

CHAPTER 1 – THE MAID WHO HEARD TOO MUCH

“But what she said just now?” Grace swallowed. “That wasn’t grief. That sounded like a countdown.”

Dominic remained motionless.

For several seconds, only the soft hum of the monitors filled the room.

Grace glanced toward the door.

“I know you can't answer me,” she whispered, “but if you're really hearing this, then you're in danger.”

She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

“I shouldn't do this.”

She hesitated.

“Yesterday, Miss Hale threw this away in the penthouse office. I was emptying the trash.”

The paper rustled.

“At first, I thought it was nothing. But then I saw your name.”

Dominic's pulse remained steady on the monitor, but every nerve in his body sharpened.

Grace unfolded the page.

“It's a transfer authorization.”

She read quietly.

“Emergency control of Moretti Holdings... temporary executive authority... beneficiary Veronica Hale.”

Her voice trembled.

“The date is Friday.”

Friday.

The same day Veronica wanted him dead.

Grace folded the paper again.

“I don't know what kind of business you people do,” she said softly. “And honestly, I don't want to know. But I know when someone is planning something ugly.”

She tucked the document beneath the mattress near Dominic's right hand.

“If you wake up someday, you'll find it.”

Then she did something no visitor had done all week.

She prayed.

Not loudly.

Not for money.

Not for power.

Just a simple prayer for a wounded man.

When she left the room, Dominic felt something unfamiliar.

Trust.

A dangerous feeling.

A rare one.
