Chapter 11 - The Threat from Within

The tender moment was shattered by the heavy metal door grinding open. Silas walked in, his face smeared with dried blood and soot. He looked grim.
“We interrogated the survivor from the penthouse attack,” Silas said, refusing to look at me, focusing entirely on his boss. “He sang before he died.”
“And?” Vincent asked, his hand slowly pulling away from my face, his posture hardening back into the ruthless king.
“It was Elena. She hired them,” Silas confirmed. “But she didn't just give them your address, Vince. The biometric locks on the private elevator were overridden from the inside. The mercenaries didn't break in; they were let in.”
Vincent’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. “We have a mole.”
“A high-ranking one,” Silas agreed. “Only the capos have the clearance codes for the penthouse lobby. Marco, Dante, or Leo. One of them is working with the ghost.”
“Marco,” I interjected without thinking.
Both men looked at me in surprise.
“In the medical wing, a few days ago,” I explained, feeling self-conscious under their intense stares. “Marco intentionally provoked Vincent by touching his bed. He wanted to see how severe the trauma was. He was testing his reaction time, assessing his weakness. He wasn't just being disrespectful; he was gathering intel.”
Vincent stared at me, his sharp mind connecting the dots. A dark, terrifying smile touched his lips. “She isn't just a nurse, Silas. She’s smarter than my entire intelligence network.”
“If it’s Marco,” Silas growled, “I’ll tear him apart.”
“No,” Vincent said, sitting up slowly, ignoring his pain. “If Marco thinks I am weak and paranoid, we use that against him. We let him think his plan is working. We use him to draw Elena out of the shadows. I am done running from a ghost.”

He looked at me, the strategic commander returning to his eyes. “Nora. I need your help. But it’s going to put you in the crosshairs.”
“Tell me what to do,” I said, without a second of hesitation.
