Chapter 14 - THE BREAKING POINT|

Arthur Velez panicked.
Realizing his life, his career, and his freedom were disappearing in seconds, he reached into his jacket, pulling a snub-nosed revolver from his holster.
"Nobody move!" Arthur screamed, wildly waving the gun at the crowd. "Stay back!"
The crowd shrieked in terror, scrambling behind tables and pillars.
Arthur grabbed Camille by her hair, pulling her up as a human shield, pressing the barrel of the gun against her temple.
"You ruined everything, Roman!" Arthur yelled, his eyes bloodshot and insane. "I gave ten years of my life to your bloody empire! I deserved that money! I deserved to take it all!"
Camille screamed in terror, crying hysterically. "Arthur, don't! Put the gun down!"
"Shut up, you stupid bitch!" Arthur backhanded her with the side of the gun, sending her sprawling across the stage floor, her face bleeding.
Arthur aimed the revolver directly at my chest.
"I’ll kill you right here, Moretti!" Arthur roared.
I didn't flinch. I didn't step back. I stood six feet away from him, my hands in my pockets, looking at him with absolute contempt.
"You're not going to shoot me, Arthur," I said calmly.
"Why not?!" he shrieked, his finger tightening on the trigger.
"Because the man standing behind you doesn't care about your gun," I replied.
Before Arthur could process my words, Patrick Sloane stepped out from the shadows behind the podium. Patrick’s massive, scarred hand clamped down on Arthur’s wrist like a steel vice, twisting it violently downward.
