WASHINGTON / NEW YORK — Former First Lady Melania Trump presided over a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, delivering a speech centered on what she described as “peace through education” during a period marked by heightened geopolitical tensions and domestic policy debate.

Speaking before representatives of member states, Melania Trump urged nations to promote tolerance and empathy, emphasizing values that “transcend geography, religion, race, and gender.” She warned against ideological rigidity, saying that societies that suppress free thought risk limiting their own future.

“When a nation restricts thought, it restricts its own future,” she told the council, calling education “the foundation of sustainable peace.”

Her remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as debate in Washington over federal education funding priorities.

While international diplomacy took center stage in New York, immigration enforcement dominated discussions in Washington.

Kristi Noem defended ongoing federal immigration operations, stating that law enforcement agencies conduct “thousands of operations every single day” targeting individuals accused of serious crimes.

“They get murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers off our streets,” Noem said.

She added that she is “grateful for the work our ICE officers do,” referencing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its role in removing individuals from communities.
