The armed man shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents outside President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate early Sunday has been identified as Austin Tucker Martin, a North Carolina resident who had become increasingly fixated on the Jeffrey Epstein files in recent months, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Martin, 27, was fatally shot after breaching the secured perimeter of the Palm Beach, Florida property while carrying a shotgun and a fuel container, authorities said. Federal and local agencies continue to investigate his motives and movements prior to the incident.

Troubling Messages and Obsession With Epstein Files

Text messages obtained by TMZ indicate Martin had grown deeply disturbed by the latest disclosures tied to documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a message sent February 15, 2026, to a co-worker, Martin wrote:

“I don’t know if you read up on the Epstein Files, but evil is real and unmistakable. The best people like you and I can do is use what little influence we have. Tell other people about what you hear about the Epstein files and what the government is doing about it. Raise awareness.”

Colleagues at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in North Carolina told media outlets that Martin frequently discussed Epstein following recent document releases. Co-workers said he believed powerful figures implicated in the case were escaping accountability and spoke often about what he saw as a government cover-up.

Political and Religious Views

Those who knew Martin described him as outspoken about both his Christian faith and conservative political beliefs. Several acquaintances said he regularly voiced support for Donald Trump, whom he considered a strong leader.

At the same time, friends said Martin had become increasingly frustrated with economic pressures facing young adults. He reportedly complained that many people his age needed multiple jobs or roommates to afford independent living and was still residing with his parents.

Work, Union Effort, and Artistic Pursuits

Martin worked in the hospitality industry at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. According to co-workers, he attempted to organize a workplace union to push for higher wages, but the effort failed to gain support.

Outside work, Martin pursued art, creating pencil sketches of local scenery and residents that he tried to sell around his community. People close to him described him as generally well-meaning but increasingly consumed by political and social grievances in the months before his death.
