After taking some time off to focus on her family, Hoda Kotb is returning to the “Today” Show for a special stint—just days after wrapping up her role filling in for Savannah Guthrie.
Kotb, 61, made the decision to step back from her co-hosting duties in January 2025, leaving behind her glamorous role at NBC to spend more time with her two young daughters, Hayley and Hope. She relocated her family to a luxurious $2.9 million home in Bronxville in 2024, signaling a new chapter in her life. But the world of television just couldn’t keep Hoda away for long.
Starting April 13, Hoda will be stepping back in front of the cameras, filling in for Craig Melvin while he takes a well-deserved vacation.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as it was just two weeks ago that Kotb last graced our screens in February, stepping into the role once more to cover for Guthrie, who had been on a leave of absence dealing with a family crisis. Savannah Guthrie returned to “Today” on April 6 after a heartbreaking two-month ordeal, where her mother, Nancy, was abducted from their home in Arizona.
Savannah herself was the one to break the news about Hoda’s return during the April 9 broadcast, joking that Craig Melvin would be enjoying his vacation while Hoda takes over for the week.

“Craig, you’ve earned it, buddy. Time for a spring break!” Savannah announced, adding, “And Monday, we’ll be trying something new. Hoda will be filling in for you!”
In a light-hearted moment, Craig teased, “Oh, I’ve heard of her! I won’t be watching, but it sounds fun!”
But while the fun is happening on set, the past few months have been far from easy for Guthrie. In a tearful and emotional interview with Hoda earlier this year, Savannah shared her deep guilt over the abduction of her mother, worried that her fame may have led to Nancy’s kidnapping.
“I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry,” a heartbroken Guthrie sobbed on-air, apologizing to her family and loved ones for the pain caused.
In the midst of these personal challenges, new developments have surfaced surrounding Nancy’s disappearance. On the same day Savannah returned to “Today,” TMZ revealed that they had received multiple cryptic messages from an anonymous sender, claiming to know the whereabouts of Nancy’s body and the identity of the kidnappers. While the authenticity of these claims remains unverified, it’s a chilling reminder of the ongoing pain Savannah and her family are enduring.
Despite the drama unfolding behind the scenes, Hoda’s return to the show promises a much-needed boost of positive energy, and fans can’t wait to see her back alongside her co-hosts for this special segment. The “Today” family remains as strong as ever—weathering the storm together, both on and off the air.
Stay tuned as Hoda Kotb steps back into the spotlight to fill in for Craig Melvin, bringing her signature warmth and charm to morning TV once again.
NBC Morning Transmission Dropped After Shocking Anchor Slap Live on Air
NEW YORK — Chaos unseated regular morning programming inside Studio 1A at Rockefeller Plaza on Friday when a premier daytime anchor struck an on-air colleague across the face on live network television. The unexpected assault—viewed in real time by millions of households nationwide—ground the network's flagship program to an abrupt halt as Master Control raced to shut down the satellite feed.
The violent disruption represents one of the most glaring operational breakdowns and security failures in modern broadcast television, sparking an instant response from building security guards and a rapid lockdown across the Manhattan media facility.
The Buildup: Rhetorical Friction Turns Into Direct Conflict
The altercation flared midway into the 8:00 AM hour following a standard commercial break. Originally slated as an unscripted roundtable debating journalistic standards and newsroom responsibility, animosity between the two veteran figures had reportedly been simmering since pre-dawn production run-throughs over airtime distribution and story framing.
The moment the broadcast went live, the conversation quickly abandoned professional decorum, devolving into barbed personal friction:
The Provocation: Countering a lead-in statement, the co-host interrupted with a cutting personal remark ridiculing the anchor’s family life and on-set professional standing.
The Standoff: The lead host vaulted out of their chair, looming over the curved glass anchor desk with visible outrage: "Say that one more time on this set. Say that to my face right now."
The Breaking Point: Leaning back casually with a patronizing smirk, the colleague answered across the table: "You heard me. You’re a fraud, and everyone in this building knows it."
The Strike on Live Television: Studio Floor Frozen in Place
Before stage managers or studio crew could step past the camera perimeter, the primary host lunged forward and delivered an open-palm strike directly to their co-host's cheek.
The sharp sound of the slap resonated loudly across the set through high-sensitivity body microphones. The impact threw the colleague’s head to the side, dislodging their in-ear communication monitor and toppling a heavy ceramic mug, sending hot coffee splashing over run-down sheets and digital production devices.
Crew hands and camera operators stood frozen in disbelief. The struck presenter sat motionless in their seat, nursing an inflamed cheek in stunned silence as the standing anchor leaned forward, warning: "Don't you ever dare question my integrity on this broadcast!"
Panic in Master Control and Sudden Feed Cut
Upstairs in Executive Master Control, the sudden strike touched off frantic commotion. Communications channels filled with panicked commands from production leadership: "Drop the feed! Pull the master fader right now! Blackout the line!"
At exactly 8:36 AM EST, control operators threw the emergency kill switch:
Transmission Cut: The chaotic visual of the drenched anchor desk cut out mid-scene, replaced by a generic blue placard stating “Special Programming Will Return Shortly” before transitioning into an unscheduled eight-minute block of syndicated programming and standard commercial reels.
Security Scrambles In: Three uniformed building guards alongside stage coordinators rushed onto the set platform, separating the hosts and restraining the aggressor away from the desk.
First Aid Administered & Set Cleared: Paramedics treated the injured presenter for facial swelling and shock, while floor leads directed non-essential technicians and crew out of Studio 1A, bolting the facility's heavy soundproof doors behind them.
Deserted Studio and Emergency Broadcast Handoff
When network transmission finally resumed ten minutes later, the main soundstage sat empty and darkened.
Viewers were greeted by a backup presenter broadcasting alone from a secondary news desk on the third floor. Visibly shaken, the fill-in anchor pivoted straight into secondary financial briefs and pre-produced taped segments, offering no explanation for the physical confrontation that had preceded the abrupt blackout.
Once the program concluded, both on-air figures were led out of Rockefeller Center through separate service doors accompanied by private security personnel.
Viral Explosion and Executive Repercussions
Home recordings capturing the exact moment of the blow spread across social media within minutes, racking up tens of millions of views across X, TikTok, and YouTube under hashtags such as #MorningShowSlap and #Studio1AAssault.
Media watchdogs, broadcast analysts, and television critics immediately denounced the incident as a catastrophic breach of workplace safety and live broadcast standards:
Legal and Civil Liability: Legal experts note that the televised strike exposes the production to significant civil claims and potential criminal inquiry, bringing corporate conduct clauses into immediate effect.
The Ensemble Facade Shattered: The physical confrontation permanently shatters the manufactured atmosphere of workplace camaraderie that draws daytime audiences and protects lucrative commercial sponsorships.
Corporate Crisis Meetings: Network executives convened closed-door legal and human resources sessions on executive levels to inspect raw multi-camera recordings, enforce company violence policies, and draft swift contractual terminations.
As the television industry digests this unprecedented on-screen disruption, the future of the network's premier morning broadcast remains severely compromised.
This remains an unfolding media and legal development. Official updates, network releases, and potential police reports will be integrated as they surface.
Fox News Prime-Time Anchor Slaps Co-Host Live, Forcing Air Cut
Fox News Prime-Time Anchor Slaps Co-Host Live on Air, Forcing Immediate Transmission Blackout
NEW YORK — A live prime-time broadcast devolved into historic, unscripted pandemonium on Friday night inside Fox News headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, when an explosive political confrontation across the studio table culminated in a lead anchor delivering a full-contact open-handed slap to their co-host's face, forcing terrified control room directors to abruptly terminate the network's national transmission.
The broadcast disaster detonated at 8:44 PM EST during the network’s flagship prime-time panel hour, instantly derailing standard programming before millions of live cable viewers nationwide.
The Breaking Point: From Verbal Crossfire to Set-Freezing Hostility
The segment began as a fiery, fast-paced debate over foreign defense expenditures and allegations of media collusion during congressional investigations. However, what was formatted as an energetic ideological debate quickly degraded into visceral personal contempt:
The Insult: As the co-host interrupted a policy monologue with an aggressive personal barb—mocking the anchor’s off-air network influence and calling them "an empty suit running errands for network executives"—the lead anchor went deathly still.
The Glare: The anchor dropped their briefing cards, leveled both palms onto the table, and fixed an icy, unblinking stare on their colleague: "Say that again on this broadcast. I dare you."
The Taunt: Leaning across the curved acrylic desk with a defiant smirk, the co-host doubled down on a live microphone: "I said you're a fraud, and everyone behind those cameras knows it."
The Physical Strike: The Slap Heard on National Television
Before floor managers or technical staff could process the threat, the anchor erupted.
Rising instantly out of the high-backed studio chair, the anchor lunged across the desk and delivered a resounding, open-handed slap across the co-host's right cheek.
The studio microphones picked up the sharp, violent crack with agonizing clarity:
The Impact: The co-host’s head recoiled sharply to the left, knocking an earpiece loose as water glasses, wireless microphones, and briefing notes flew across the table.
The Immediate Scuffle: The struck co-host scrambled backward, shouting in fury as their chair tipped onto the floor riser. Stagehands and security personnel rushed onto the set shouting, while the remaining panelists sat frozen in sheer horror.
The Audio Leak: Just before the microphones were muted, the anchor’s voice echoed through the studio: "Keep your mouth shut on this set!"
Control Room Panic: The Emergency Master Cut
Inside the third-floor master control suite, executive producers and engineers scrambled in absolute panic as the fight spilled onto the studio floor:
Screams in the Comm Loop: The executive producer could be heard yelling over internal headsets: "Kill it! Kill the master line! Go to slate right now! Cut the feed!"
The Immediate Blackout: At 8:44:22 PM EST, while the two figures were still scuffling behind the table, the live multi-camera split-screen cut abruptly to pitch-black dead air.
The Emergency Backup: Within five seconds, the master control system switched to an emergency feed loop consisting of generic sponsor billboards, syndicated documentary teasers, and breaking news holding graphics.
Network Reaction and Aftermath
When Fox News resumed scheduled live programming twelve minutes later, the main prime-time studio was completely abandoned:
A visibly unsettled breaking-news anchor appeared from a secondary Washington, D.C. newsroom bureau to anchor a generic legal panel, offering zero initial explanation for the sudden prime-time blackout.
A senior network spokesperson released an emergency statement shortly before 10:00 PM: "An unprecedented, entirely unacceptable physical altercation occurred between on-air personnel during tonight's live broadcast. Both individuals have been suspended immediately pending a comprehensive executive and human resources investigation."
Screen recordings of the exact microsecond of the slap exploded across social media within minutes of the blackout, amassing tens of millions of views under trending hashtags #FoxNewsSlap, #TransmissionBlackout, and #PrimeTimeChaos—cementing the broadcast as one of the most shocking breakdowns in live television history.
